SCROTAL SWELLING
Scrotal swelling in men is common but neglected concern, can be caused by conditions like hydrocele (fluid collection), hernia, infections, varicocele (enlarged veins in the scrotum), hernia, trauma, testicular cancer (may just be hard, not painful), systemic conditions like congestive heart failure, and in rare cases testicular torsion.
Symptoms:
- Visible swelling or heaviness in the scrotum
- Discomfort, pain or difficulty in walking
Evaluation:
Physical examination by a certified surgeon and ultrasound can help diagnose the cause. Treatment may include simple drainage, surgery in case of hydrocele or hernia, antibiotics for infection or reference to the oncologist in case of tumour.

Scrotal swelling should not be ignored. It requires prompt medical evaluation to identify the cause and initiate appropriate treatment. In case of pain seek urgent care: a fast-developing swelling with pain may indicate a serious issue like infection or torsion which requires attention on priority.
Post treatment home management:
- Rest: Avoid excessive activity to help reduce swelling.
- Elevation: Placing a rolled-up towel or athletic supporter between the legs can help alleviate discomfort and reduce swelling.
