Buccal Fat Removal
Is Buccal Fat Removal meant for You?
Ask to Expert
Buccal fat pad removal is performed through a small incision inside the mouth. This is typically performed under local anesthesia with medications to reduce anxiety and pain. If the patient so desires, it can be performed under general anesthesia, although this is seldom necessary. The buccal fat is about the size of a golf ball or ping-pong ball. Buccal fat removal can be done in conjunction with other procedures to further enhance the facial contour. The location of buccal fat deep within the face prevents its removal with liposuction. Face fat removal surgery or cheek fat surgery is now a common procedure if you want a chiseled face.
Understanding the Surgery.
What can one expect after the chubby cheek surgery or cheek fat reduction surgery?
Because of an incision being made within the mouth the patient is instructed to consume a liquid diet for the first 24 hours after surgery and a soft diet for the first five days. The incision requires no post-operative care and the sutures that are used dissolve on their own eliminating the need for their removal. For five to ten days postoperatively, there will be some swelling that causes the appearance to be consistent with the pre-operative face. After three weeks, the majority of the swelling will have reduced and change on the face will be noticeable.
